One thing has amazed us throughout this challenging year – our relentless dedication to fulfilling our purpose and promise. Amidst our planning for the year ahead, we’ve reflected and want to share with everyone how awesome this year has been for us.
Partnerships
We welcomed the Herston Biofabrication Institute, Jamieson Trauma Institute, and The Genomic Institute to our fold as we collaborated with them on several projects and initiatives. We look forward to continuing these relationships into 2022 and beyond.
Fit-testing
Earlier this year, we expanded our portfolio when we took on the responsibility of managing the Fit Testing program for Metro North Health. The program also includes onboarding and training of staff to quantitatively fit test P2/N95 masks. As a result of our work, we were also asked to provide fit testing to other government departments such as Queensland Police Service, Australian Federal Police, Australian Defence Force, and COVID-19 quarantine support staff (i.e., hotel staff, airport shuttle staff).
Pocket Centre
Despite uncertainty around COVID-19 and its impact on education delivery, our Pocket Centre Network amazingly logged 5,522 simulation events attended by over 34,000 participants. 2021 was another big year for our Simulation Education Program as we delivered 52 sessions for 268 attendees.
Equipment and Maintenance
The CSDS Logistics Team facilitated the transport of over 22,000 kg of simulation equipment throughout Queensland Health facilities. Of the 3,372 items in our catalogue, our Technical Services Team completed services on 156 full-body manikins (out of 261) and completed repairs on 260 trainers.
Training and Education
Over the last two years, we’ve been focusing on launching education programs to support our Queensland Health clinicians using new modalities and approaches.
Queensland Trauma Education
Last May, we launched Queensland Trauma Education (QTE) to support all trauma care providers across Queensland. QTE provides a central and searchable location of education resources for clinicians who care for the injured. We developed QTE in collaboration with Queensland Health Statewide Trauma Clinical Network, Jamieson Trauma Institute, and Clinical Excellence Queensland. Maternity Education Program (MEP)
We continued expanding MEP by publishing more resource kits and schedules for our MEP Foundation and MEP Advanced courses. During our celebration of International Day of the Midwife, we also launched MEPcast- a podcast where we explore different ideas on how we can enhance and improve the delivery of maternity care training and education in Queensland. We also developed three online courses for the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service of Metro North Health. These courses include Pyxis, Laser Safety Induction, and Queensland Digital Early Warning Tool.
Other courses that we’ve launched and re-designed include PHTLS 9th Edition, Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises Instructor Course, Oxygen Therapy, Airway Suctioning via the Oropharynx and Nasopharynx, Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy Course, Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Course, Introduction to Chest Radiographs, Intensive Care Physiotherapy – Orientation, Intensive Care Physiotherapy – Ventilator Hyperinflation, Genomics Foundation, and Contact Tracing Queensland.
Celebrations
On the 5th of May, we staged an open day event to celebrate the International Day of the Midwife. Held globally, this day is a chance to acknowledge and recognise the incredible work and contribution of midwives to maternal and newborn health. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, we organised the event into multiple sessions. For more information about the event, read our post.
To celebrate this year’s Healthcare Simulation Week, we’ve put together a schedule of daily lunchtime simulation webinars, called #SIMinars. Healthcare Simulation Week is a global event that celebrates healthcare professionals who use simulation to improve the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare delivery.
