Supplementary information form to role description for an IMG undertaking a PESCI for a Principal House Officer position within Queensland Health

This form is to be completed by the Department Director when appointing an International Medical Graduate (IMG) to a Principal House Officer position in a Queensland Health facility and the IMG is applying for Limited registration under the Standard Pathway.

Provide details of the qualifications and skills required for the position. Consider position requirements such as, but not limited to:

  • Specific skills and competencies, eg. postgraduate training, familiar with intravenous thrombolysis.
  • Level of decision-making, eg level of decision the IMG will be expected to make with and without consultation with a supervisor.
  • Supervisory experience, eg level to which the IMG will be required to supervise, manage and educate university students or junior medical staff, and/or other staff as appropriate.

ORIENTATION ARRANGEMENTS

Queensland Health has developed the Welcome Pack Transition to Clinical Practice in Queensland Health – Orientation Program for IMGs. The information provided covers key areas in which an IMG is required to have basic knowledge and understanding, in order to transition to safe and effective clinical practice in the public health system of Queensland.

The key areas are:

  • Health care system in Australia
  • Working in Queensland
  • Legislation and professional practice
  • Rural and remote health services in Queensland Health
  • Communication and cultural safety
  • Living in Queensland

As orientation is a mandatory requirement for continuing medical registration with the Medical Board of Queensland, all IMGs will have access to this Welcome Pack within the first three months of employment in Queensland Health.
