In the lead up to the launch of the new Ultrasound Guided Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation (USGPIVC) blended course, we are making the online learning component available to everyone at no cost as we prepare for COVID-19 course delivery restrictions to ease.

The online learning component has been designed to complement the face-to-face workshop and focuses on the practical skills needed to safely perform ultrasound guided peripheral intravenous cannulation.

Collaboratively designed with experts from the medical and nursing streams, the Ultrasound Guided Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation (USGPIVC) blended course aims to extend participant cannulation skills to effectively manage people with difficult intravenous access using ultrasound.

Consisting of a 3 hour face-to-face workshop and an online component, the underpinning theory covers:

  • basic ultrasound physics
  • vascular device selection and decision-making
  • insertion techniques
  • aseptic precautions
  • real world application.
