Queensland Women’s Week, #QWW24, runs from 3-10 March, and celebrates the achievements and leadership of Queensland women and girls. This week offers a platform for women and girls statewide to unite, share knowledge, and celebrate women’s achievements.
At CSDS, we embraced the spirit of #QWW24 by hosting a morning tea, where our Senior Researcher, Dr Lisa Peberdy shared her journey and the significant contributions she has made to Women’s Health throughout her career. Her work has taken her across various landscapes, from rural to remote regions, providing invaluable insights drawn from her experience in International Aid.
Lisa’s initial vision of nursing was confined to clinical settings, but quickly evolved into a much broader and impactful journey. From volunteering during the tumultuous 1999 militia uprising in East Timor to performing a C-section while barefoot in Samoa, Lisa’s experiences showcase adaptability and courage in the face of adversity. Her career trajectory emphasises resilience, seizing every opportunity, and advocating for women’s well-being.
During this special week, we take a moment to celebrate Lisa and all the other remarkable women who contribute to the success of CSDS. Their dedication and collaboration play a vital role in achieving CSDS’ mission to improve healthcare outcomes.
This week is a reminder to confirm our commitment to creating an inclusive and equal society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can work towards building a brighter and more promising future for all.
