From Mt Isa to Norfolk Island, Julie Bryant and Debra Harcourt from the CSDS Fit Testing team have travelled over 20,000 kilometres in the past year to ensure Queensland’s healthcare workforce remains protected.
Why MaskHelper matters
Between July 2024 and June 2025, 23,551 Queensland Health staff were fit tested using MaskHelper — an achievement made possible through the dedication of our fit testing team and the power of innovation.

How MaskHelper works
Developed in partnership between eHealth Queensland and CSDS, MaskHelper is a patented enterprise solution with a built-in AI component.
During fit testing, it:
- Recommends the most appropriate N95/P2 mask for each staff member
- Reduces PPE waste by avoiding trial-and-error fitting
- Improves compliance monitoring across the state
- Provides statewide visibility of fit testing outcomes
- Ensures results move with staff between Hospital and Health Services
Recognised for innovation
MaskHelper’s impact hasn’t gone unnoticed. At the 2024 Queensland AI Awards, it received the award for Outstanding Contribution to AI – Individual or Team. This recognition highlights not only the innovation itself but also the dedication of the team that delivers it across Queensland.
Beyond fit testing
In addition to conducting N95/P2 and Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR) fit testing, CSDS also provides MaskHelper training and ongoing virtual support to Hospital and Health Services via Microsoft Teams.
Beyond Queensland Health, CSDS delivers fee-for-service fit testing to non-government healthcare providers and students preparing for clinical placements.
