Introducing the Queensland Innovation Living Lab

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Queensland Innovation Living Lab (QuILL) at CSDS, marking a significant milestone in our 20th anniversary celebrations. QuILL has been developed with the support of the Healthcare Improvement Unit, Clinical Excellence Queensland.

What is QuILL?

QuILL is a testbed where healthcare professionals, researchers, digital specialists, and consumers work together to evaluate and refine devices, technologies, and processes. QuILL leverages advanced measurement tools such as wearable biometric sensors, eye-tracking technology, and high-definition cameras to capture detailed data on end-user’s cognitive and physiological states, including stress, attention, and overall experience.

3 focus areas of QuILL

  1. Product innovation – user-centred, iterative design and evaluation of prototypes for medical devices and software.
  2. Data-driven procurement – supporting user-centred evaluations of products to inform tender and procurement processes.
  3. Critical incident analysis – uncovering user-interface vulnerabilities with equipment and products.

A hub for innovation

There’s been a lot of interest in QuILL. Recently, representatives from Department of Health toured the lab, reflecting its importance as a hub for innovation in Queensland’s healthcare system. Through partnerships with Queensland Health, private healthcare providers, and industry experts, QuILL is positioned to make a meaningful contribution to improving patient care and healthcare efficiency.

Great ideas don’t just happen—they’re built together. Let’s create the future of healthcare.
