Clinical Supervision keeps gaining momentum across Queensland. At CSDS and Metro North Health, we’ve been expanding opportunities, growing the network of supervisors, and celebrating the positive impact supervision is having on nurses and midwives statewide.
Here’s a look at what’s been happening recently.
Increased resourcing
To meet growing demand, funding has been secured to expand Cathy Boyle’s role as Clinical Supervision Nurse Educator to 0.4 FTE until January 2026. This additional capacity means more nurses and midwives can access both individual and group supervision.

Statewide training workshops
Developing the next generation of Clinical Supervisors is essential to strengthening support for nurses and midwives across Queensland.
With funding from the Office of the Chief Nurse (OCNO), CSDS delivered four Statewide Clinical Supervisor Education and Training workshops in 2025.
Location | Workshops | Staff trained |
Brisbane | 2 | 37 |
Cairns | 1 | 17 |
Mackay | 1 | 12 |
We trained a total of 66 nurses and midwives, including 11 from Metro North Health – an amazing outcome that strengthens supervision capacity across Queensland.

Looking ahead
Clinical Supervision continues to provide nurses and midwives with a structured space to reflect on their work, access support, address practice dilemmas, and grow professionally. For new graduates in particular, it offers vital guidance and confidence to navigate the complexities of healthcare and succeed in their roles.
With expanded resourcing and strong collaboration between CSDS, the Office of the Chief Nurse (OCNO), the Office of the Chief Midwife (OCMO), and Metro North Health, access to Clinical Supervision is steadily growing.
The goal is simple: that every nurse and midwife has the opportunity to benefit from it — whether through one-on-one sessions, group supervision, or training as a supervisor.
