Did you know that CSDS offers an Honorary Fellowship program? Paul Krohn, a CSDS Honorary Fellow, discovered during his research for the Simulation Fellowship Project that poorly applied moulage, or the lack of moulage use in simulations is associated with sub-optimal participant engagement and risks diluting meaningful learning for participants.
Paul proposed developing a short, skills-focused workshop to teach the discrete skill of designing and making a prosthetic silicone wound. This led to the development of Silicone Wounds and Prosthetics Workshop (SWAP-W).
The workshop is ideal for healthcare and simulation staff who are involved in preparing live actors and human patient simulators for immersive simulation events.
SWAP-W learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participant should be able to:
- Prepare physical resources for making a silicone wound.
- Demonstrate correct mixing and pouring technique for making wounds/injuries mould.
- Demonstrate correct demoulding technique for wounds/injuries mould.
- Demonstrate an effective technique for applying silicone appliances onto an actor.
- Describe effective understanding of appropriate skincare, work, health and safety considerations when applying cosmetic special makeup effects onto an actor.
