Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital

Marcia is a practicing nurse and midwife at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. She started her career in the UK as a nurse in 1986 and as a midwife in 1990. During her 16-year career in the UK, she was predominantly birth suite focused with a passion for both spectrums of midwifery practice- from high-risk critical care to the promotion of normal birth. Marcia also led the implementation and successfully embedded the practice of water birth within an all-risk unit.

In 2006, she emigrated to Australia. She has spent the past 15 years in varying roles including Nurse/Midwifery Educator, Midwifery Unit Manager, and Safety and Quality Officer. Most recently, she was the Clinical Informatics Director at Digital Metro North and led the implementation of a centralised fetal surveillance system.

Marcia is committed to contributing to the provision of the highest level of woman and family centered care locally and through state and national initiatives, striving to set the highest standards of care within a leadership, education, research and clinical governance framework. She is a staunch advocate of the nursing and midwifery profession and strives to enhance the profession through the frameworks of scope of nursing and midwifery practice, lifelong learning, and advanced nursing and midwifery practice.
